‘Don’t Say Goodbye' is a bitter-sweet story of military life on the modern day home front. Written after the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards returned from Afghanistan in 2009 where 7 of its men were killed and many more were injured, Fiona (whose husband is also a welsh Guardsman) relates emotional stories from the bereaved, the wounded and the families of this close knit Regiment, in which ordinary people live extraordinary lives.
Yet despite all the sacrifices and separations involved in military life, Fiona describes how the wider Army family provides immense support and comfort at all times. This is a story of a strong community spirit, compassion and camaraderie amongst the wives and families who provide the backbone to today’s Armed Forces, making up the massive team which supports our troops and enables them to do their jobs so well.
At least 40% of the profits from sales of Don’t Say Goodbye will be donated to the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal, supporting the Regiment’s bereaved, wounded and their families.
